The Eighteenth (?) Day. Wow.

I had a fit of obsession over a word just a second ago. I was travelling travelling travelling through the blogs leaving comments in my wake or just reading, when I came across Keri Mikulski's blog and found a word that I have used more than once it my life, but it was just a bit forgettable. Anyone remember "hoopla"? It's a wonderful word, I know. Hoopla! And the sad thing is, is that this fantastic word is generally used in the negative sense. But that is just a bunch of hoopla! In my opinion, that is.

`
Well, if anyone remembered my first post of the month, you may remember that this month I shall be talking about vampires. I said nothing to make you think that this would be my hard-core book reviewing month. Sure I reviewed enough to probably make you think that this month is soley for book reviews that are about vampires, but my interview with Amanda from That Teen Can Blog! disproved that.

`
Okay, well, before my fine days of worshipping books (which is still ongoing, I might add) I used to be an otaku. If anyone doesn't know what that is, it means someone is is pretty much obsessed with anime/manga/generally, japanese drawing. animated or not. I used to stay up late every night to watch Full Metal Alchemist and Inuyasha (which I have seen all of the episodes about 10 or 20 times. yeah, that bad.) and stuff. Of course, I still have my favorites, but I don't watch them much anymore. I stayed around long enough to complete Death Note, though, which is an accomplishment, though I did not have the patience to watch every single episode of Bleach and Naruto (it's not that bad. i know people think Naruto is pretty much the eptiome of stupid anime/manga, but they are so wrong). Which brings me to my point. Sort of.
My favorite anime series was Blood+. I love Blood+. Anyone who likes anime needs to watch Blood+. I think that it is for both boys and girls. It's got the romance, the main character is a chick in high school, but then it's got the blood and sword fighting. And then it had the chiropterans.
`
Here are all the (good. nice. not evil) main characters. From left to right is: Lewis, Julia Silverstein, David, Hagi, Saya Otonashi, Kai Miyagusuku, Mao Jahana, and Akihiro Okamura.

(wikipedia.org)

Under the care of her adoptive family, Saya Otonashi has been living the life of an anemic and amnesiac, but otherwise ordinary schoolgirl. Saya’s happy life is shattered when she is attacked by a chiropteran, learning that she is the only one who can defeat them.
Armed with her katana, Saya embarks on a journey with her family, allies, and her chevalier, Hagi, to rid the world of chiropteran and rediscover her identity. The course of the journey reveals the background history of the chiropterans and Saya's very deep past, which extends into the mid-19th century.
The series is initially set in present day (September 2005) Okinawa City (Koza), on Okinawa Island, near the US Kadena Air Base. In the course of the series, Saya visits locations across the world, fighting enemy chiropteran and searching for her origins.

`

This series has warnings and disclaimers, though. It really isn't meant for those who can't handle it. It has a bunch of violence and death, and there is one case of rape even though it doesn't show it happening. And god, that was the saddest episode because one of my favorite characters died because of that. And it was a guy being raped, not a girl. Gosh that was depressing.

I remember when I first saw this show. I saw it, but then I didn't. I was sleeping on my dad's couch but I woke up to noise on the television even though I had put the volume low. I sat up a bit drowsily, donned my glasses and saw some mysterious man on the floor, arms wrapped around a girl (so she couldn't run. and he was on the floor, she was lying with her back against his chest) kissing her and a little trickle of blood ran from the corner of her mouth. Little did I know! This is what I didn't know: What I was watching was the ending of the premiere of the new show Blood+ and it was the first show, appropriately titled First Kiss. The mysterious man (and my favorite character. swoon.) was Hagi, Saya's chevalier (which I will explain later) and the girl was Saya. Saya had no frickin clue who Hagi was. The school was being attacked at night by a chiropteran, Saya had gone to the school to get her sneakers that she had forgotten, saw her dead teacher and another dead girl and was ultimately attacked. Hagi found her in the classroom and tried to help her (in his own way, of course) but she ran and ran and finally she just held her down. Wanna know why she was held down? He was trying to get her to drink his blood, but she refused and her finally just put some in his mouth and transfered it to her via kiss so she could kick some major chiropteran ass. I was so glad that it was only the first showing and I could watch the later episode around 3 or 4 a.m.

`

Just so you guys know that I'm being true to vampire month, this is what a Chiropteran is: Chiropterans are hematophagous bat-like creatures that live by feeding on human blood. They generally possess extraordinary speed, strength, and supernatural healing abilities. They are also capable of contorting and transforming various body parts in order to fly or have longer limbs and higher level chiropterans have the ability to disguise themselves as ordinary humans. Chiropterans are created from the blood of a queen and, ironically, it is also the primary method of killing them. When the blood of another queen is introduced into a chiropteran's bloodstream, it starts a crystallizing chain-reaction that destroys them. Thus, chiropterans created from Diva's blood can be killed by Saya's blood, and vice versa.

Chevaliers: Chevaliers are the second highest level of chiropterans in terms of strength and ability. They are created when a human drinks the blood of a queen. A powerful bond exists between each chevalier and the Queen that sired them, compelling the chevaliers to serve and protect her at all costs.

`

So, yeah, Saya is basically a chiropteran. It needed to be said. Specifically, she is one of the chiropteran queens, the other being her twin sister, Diva.

And to those who think that, gosh, maybe chiropterans are pretty because most vamps are, well here you go. ---> You're welcome. Mwah-ha-ha.

`

There is one character whom I love almost as much as Hagi, and his name is Solomon. He is one of Diva's chevaliers, and hopelessly in love with Saya. He even leaves Diva and his chevalier brothers in hopes that Saya will let him become her metaphorical chevalier. But, alas, she rejects him, but I could tell that she had some feelings for him. It's just hard to like someone when a guy like Hagi is around.

And now for the most important question of all.

Hagi or Solomon?
